Sustainable and Capable Civil Human Rights Initiatives of Zakarpattia

About the project

The project aims to strengthen human rights protection, ensure equality, and prevent discrimination in the communities of Zakarpattia Oblast.

Within the framework of the project, vulnerable population groups, including internally displaced persons, women, representatives of the Roma and other national minorities, will be able to receive free legal and consultative assistance in Uzhhorod, remotely, and during visits to target communities.

The project also includes public monitoring of government bodies' activities regarding human rights observance and anti-discrimination policies, preparation of an analytical report with recommendations, creation of an electronic directory of institutions providing free legal aid in Zakarpattia, as well as training events for journalists, police officers, members of IDP Councils, activists, and local human rights defenders.

The project implementation will cover Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, Berehove, Irshava, Stavne, and Kamianka communities and will contribute to the development of intersectoral cooperation, strengthening local human rights initiatives, and improving residents' access to mechanisms for protecting their rights.

The project focuses on supporting women, members of the Roma minority, IDPs, as well as professional groups of journalists and human rights defenders

Expected Results

As a result of the project implementation, vulnerable population groups in Zakarpattia Oblast, including internally displaced persons, women, representatives of the Roma and other national minorities, will have better access to legal information, consultations, and mechanisms for protecting their rights.

Journalists, police representatives, members of IDP Councils, public activists, and local human rights defenders will better understand the principles of equality and non-discrimination and will be able to apply them in their professional and public activities. This should contribute to more accurate coverage of sensitive topics, more attentive interaction with representatives of vulnerable groups, and more timely response to cases of discrimination and hate speech.

IDP Councils and local human rights initiatives in six communities will strengthen their ability to identify rights violations, interact with authorities, and use the results of public monitoring to prepare substantiated recommendations and local advocacy actions.

Authorities of Zakarpattia Oblast and target communities will receive analytical conclusions and practical recommendations on ensuring equality of rights and preventing discrimination. The project will promote more meaningful interaction between authorities, public organizations, human rights defenders, journalists, police, and IDP Councils.

The creation of an open electronic directory will help people quickly find verified institutions and organizations that provide free legal aid in Zakarpattia.
